Modifikácie a skripty
Hoci samotný Counter-strike je modifikácia (mód), vznikla okolo nej komunita ľudí, ktorí píšu skripty a tvoria módy. Niektoré modifikácie napríklad pridávajú botov alebo umožňujú serverovým administrátorom flexibilnejšiu a efektívnejšiu kontrolu nad serverom. Veľmi populárne administrátorské skripty sú Metamod, AMX Mod, AMX Mod X. Niektoré módy CS kompletne menia pravidlá hry; medzi najznámejšie patria:
- Gun Game – hráči začínajú so základnou pištoľou a musia zabíjať ostatných pre získanie lepších zbraní. V prípade, že bude hráč zabitý nožom, tak stráca svoju súčasnú zbraň a klesá o jednu úroveň (level) nižšie.
- Zombie – jeden tím pozostáva zo zombie, ktorí musia rozšíriť infekciu zabíjaním členov druhého tímu.
- SuperHero, Warcraft III a Call of Duty – pridávajú do CS skúsenosti (experience systém), ktoré hráč získava za zabíjanie ostatných hráčov. Na každej vyššej úrovni si môže hráč vybrať napríklad nového hrdinu, ktorý má určitú špeciálnu vlastnosť.
- Star wars – hráči dostanú miesto nožov svetelný meč, majú špeciálne vlastnosti podľa vybranej Star wars postavy, získavajú vojenské hodnisti a cieľom hry je získať vlajku súpera.
- Surf – cieľom je presurfovať celú mapu za pomoci šikmých plôch.
- Deathmatch – asi najpopulárnejší z módov; zbrane sa nekupujú, je možné vybrať akúkoľvek. Po zabití sa hráč opäť „narodí“ na náhodnom mieste na mape a hneď pokračuje v hre.
- Paintball – hráči dostanú paintballovú zbraň a snažia sa trafiť súperov. Výhoda je v tom, že guľôčky majú určitú dobu letu, to znamená, že aj po smrti sa môže stať, že guľka ešte trafí súpera
- Hide N Seek – jeden tím má zbraň a hľadá súperov, ktorí majú len nôž a musia sa schovať kým neskončí kolo. Potom sa úlohy vymenia.
- Soccerjam – podstata hry je streliť súperovi gól. Hráč získava skúsenostné body, ktoré využíva na zvýšenie rýchlosti, zlepšenie streľby a pod. Nad oboma bránami je Votrelec, ktorý bráni dorážaniu lopty do brány.
- Deathrun – typ módu, pri ktorom majú hráči zabiť teroristu do skončenia časového limitu kola. Terorista býva náhodne zvolený. Hráči musia prekonávať prekážky, ktoré sú už v mape určené, alebo tie, ktoré im kladie terorista. Terorista kladie prekážky rôznymi tlačidlami
